Rockingham County Reads: The Kite Runner

Hello and welcome to the blog for Rockingham County Reads! This community-wide reading program is now on its second book, Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner. Copies of the book are currently available in all public libraries in Rockingham County.

Library book discussions for The Kite Runner are scheduled to start in March and will include the Mayodan library on March 3, the Eden library on March 6, and the Reidsville library on March 10. All book discussion programs will start at 6:30 in the evening. In addition to book discussions there are several other programs slated to take place at the libraries. Dr. Sara Lischer from Wake Forest University will discuss the war in Afghanistan on March 13 at 6:30 at the Eden library, and Dr. Robert Griffiths from UNCG will discuss the politics of Afghansitan on March 24 at 6:30 at the Mayodan library.

The capstone event in this year's reading program will take place on April 10 at 7 p.m. on the campus of Rockingham Community College. Dr. Jeff Jones of UNCG will be discussing themes and issues from The Kite Runner.

The purpose of this blog is twofold: to provide updates and information about Rockingham County Reads! and to allow for a forum for readers to discuss their thoughts about the book. Post your comments and questions about The Kite Runner and exchange ideas with other readers.
